Van 't Spit

If you want to enjoy ultimate chicken dishes, go to Van 't Spit in Amsterdam. You will discover the versatility that chicken meat has to offer. Moreover, sustainable chicken dishes are served here. What does that mean? Chickens that undergo a quiet growth period without antibiotics or, for example, growth promoters. The Brabant chickens from Van 'Spit grow up with a natural day and night rhythm and are lovingly cared for by the farmer in spacious stables.

The fact that chicken dishes are extremely popular is evident from the fact that Van 't Spit is located in no fewer than four locations in the Netherlands. In addition to this branch in Amsterdam West, you can also fully enjoy chicken cuisine in the Amsterdam district of De Pijp, in Rotterdam and in Eindhoven. The same extensive menus are served everywhere. Together with a good glass of beer, a gin and tonic or a glass of wine, this is pure enjoyment. Don't forget to order the homemade applesauce.

Museums

Home to the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum and The Royal Concertgebouw, Museumplein is the cultural beating heart of Amsterdam. Recently renovated to a world-class standard, the leafy and architecturally astounding 19th-century district of Oud-Zuid is an art lover’s utopia. The open square between the buildings pulses with activity all day, with open-air exhibitions, markets and a large paddling pool to dip your toes into on warmer days. In the winter months, the square transforms with a vast outdoor ice rink.

Canal Cruise

Created in the 17th century to keep the sea at bay, Amsterdam’s UNESCO protected canal belt is the quintessential postcard-perfect vision of Amsterdam. It is an unbelievably pretty sight, especially after sundown when the bridges are lit up by fairy lights and the whole area takes on a magical feel. Floating along the canals by guided boat tour is a great way to get under the fabric of the city, and you’ll learn lots of fascinating facts along the way – such as why the tilting homes along the canals are known as ‘dancing houses’. There are many different canal cruises on offer, from hop-on-hop-off sightseeing tours to atmospheric candlelit night time cruises with food and wine.

Café 't Doktertje

Café "De Dokter", or as it is called by the people "Het Doktertje", was founded on September 2, 1798 by a surgeon from the nearby hospital "Binnengasthuis" and since that year it was a pub of the Beems family. The sixth generation, Jannie and Jan Beems have been running this pub for forty years already.

After the beginning it became the local pub of doctors and medical students of the nearby City University. Since thirty years this hospital has been closed together with the "Wilhelmina Gasthuis" and both hospitals have become the Amsterdam Medical Center on the edge of the city.

De Dokter is the smallest pub in Amsterdam, with an area of 18 square meters. It has a unique atmosphere and decoration, with old jazz records always playing in the background.

De Dokter is located right in the heart of the city, between the Spui con te Beguinehof and the Old Town Orphanage, dating back to the Middle Ages, on one side, and Dam Square, the former "Binnengasthuis" and the Allard Pierson Museum on the other side.

Sins of Sal

Sins of Sal is the little dark sister of Salmuera and is located on Westerstraat, in the middle of the Jordaan. What can you expect here? A cocktail bar with an ode to the Latin American night.

The business is hidden behind a dark facade, but inside the business - with red fluorescent lighting - is on fire. Sins of Sal is a place where you enjoy dark desires that cannot tolerate the light of day. With a culinary chapel dedicated to Santa Muerta, red neon lighting, 80's posters and lots of candles. It seems as if you have ended up in the legendary setting of the cult film From Dus Till Dawn.

And this setting is exactly how the Uzcudun brothers from restaurant Salmuera envisioned it, because Sins of Sal is inspired by the legendary vampire bar from this 80's cult film. With various influences from the ancient Aztec temple in Mexico.

The menu is darkly delicious and full of Latin American street food with a twist. You can slurp oysters with leche de tigre. You secretly top Sal's prime cuts with foie gras and sink your teeth into a sinful tostada with sweetbreads, where you can shamelessly lick your fingers.

For the big carnivores there are dirty ribs and torta libre with gravy with jus veau and nachos on the menu, but there is also plenty to snack on for the vegetarians among us. Consider, for example, Tacos Orellanas made from chipotle oyster mushrooms.

Brouwerij 't IJ - Proeflokaal de Molen

Tasting room De Molen, like the brewery, is located in the former bathhouse under the mill on the Funenkade.

Most of the different beers we brew are available on tap here. Order it at the bar and find a suitable spot to enjoy it to the fullest. In the summer our large terrace with long tables is very suitable for this, in the winter there is also quite a bit of space between the tiled walls of the room itself.

We also offer a number of snacks that go well with a few glasses of beer: fresh peanuts from the Dappermarkt around the corner, boiled ice cream, abbey cheese, dry sausage from Brandt & Levie, grilled sausage from Wild van Wild, oxen sausage from Slagerij de Wit and of course Skeapsrond of Farm Dikhoeve.
